Galatee Martin

Galatée Martin is living and working in Paris. She studied textile design at the Ecole Supérieure des Beaux Arts in Lyon, and fashion design at the Gerrit Rietveld Académie in Amsterdam. Her practice is built through several mediums, ranging from clothing to painting with acrylics, pigments and airbrush on canvas, as well as drawing and creating murals. She intertwines and contaminates references until they form a new pictorial space. Her paintings are composed of assemblies of images that come to her suddenly and instinctively. Using the technique of patterning, she borrows preexisting images and tells a story by assembling them like a garment on the canvas.

Her work revolves around the relationship between textile and painting. She paints on uncoated linen fabrics. The canvas is treated like a skin, raw and fluid. She stages androgynous characters in duets that reveal themselves, expose themselves.
